#1 Rough look. |

#2 Determine the desired length for the cut, and pay attention to the growth patterns. The customer’s preference will determine if you will cut with the grain or against the grain. |

#3 A taper usually is in the temporal area, but not restricted to that area. With or without side burns a taper can be bald, light or dark. Blend in slowly & patiently. |

#4 Taper the nape of the neck up to the occipital bone. While using small precise cutting strokes, watch the growth patterns on the neck. You can keep a line on the neck or blend it in. |

#5 A clean even line around the taper will complete the look. With the clients consent, a razor gives the best results. If the client requests only clippers, adjusted edgers will do the job as well. |

#6 Apply antiseptic to soothe the skin, and follow with a desired styling product to complete the look. |
